Along with gene and stem cell therapies and gene directed pharmacotherapy, neuromodulation is one of the most exciting developments of modern healthcare. Neuromodulation is defined as the reversible therapeutic interaction of activity of the central, peripheral and autonomic nervous system with electrical or centrally applied pharmacological agents.
We use neuromodulation method which involves percutaneous electrical nerve stimulation (PENS) to treat pain, spasticity, and bowel and bladder functions. During this painless procedure small electrical current passes through fine needles/electrodes into the soft tissues where specific peripheral sensory nerves are distributed.
Electro-acupuncture and PENS are different and superior to the conventional TENS (Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation, commonly used in physical therapy) where electrodes are attached to the surface of the skin
